Set all other systems, including the air conditioner, to their lowest settings and the heater to its highest. The heater is your next best option when it comes to warming up an automobile battery. The engine ought to restart once it has warmed up sufficiently. Consider it more like the gradual fade of a dimmer than a light switch. Therefore, after ten years, a car that could initially go 250 miles on a full charge might only be able to go 220 or 230 miles.

Rather, its maximum range gradually decreases each year, frequently by only 1 to 2 percent. In practice, this means the battery will likely outlast your ownership of the vehicle entirely. A battery doesn’t suddenly become unusable after reaching its maximum capacity. That kind of dip is hardly noticeable for the majority of daily driving. The manufacturer actually suggests a very straightforward course of action.

Checking fluid levels and changing filters won’t be your tasks. In a similar vein, it is not necessary to let it reach zero before recharging. Your main interaction will be with the charging procedure. Instead of viewing it as a chore, consider it a gentle rule of thumb. Whether you’re driving through a winter freeze or a summer heatwave, the battery’s thermal management system automatically regulates the temperature. The majority of experts and automakers advise against keeping the battery fully charged for prolonged periods of time, especially during hot weather.

The closest thing to a maintenance routine you’ll come across is keeping the state of charge in that comfortable 20 percent to 80 percent sweet spot for daily driving. You might be surprised to learn how important your daily routines are, but the good news is that you don’t have to worry about them. This is a straightforward habit rather than a chore. It’s not ideal to keep your car plugged in at 100% for days on end, autopowercare.com and it’s also not a good idea to frequently drain it to almost nothing.

Preventing extended exposure to extremely low or extremely high states of charge is the most important factor in maintaining battery health. The majority of EVs make this easy with charge limits you can set on the dashboard or in the app. Instead, try to keep your battery between 20 and 80 percent for regular use, which is the sweet spot. Keep your limit at 80% or 90% if you have a home charger and your daily commute is short.

This should be done out of habit rather than fear. Charge to 100% when necessary. This is not a delicate device that needs to be cared for. It is a sturdy piece of engineering designed to support you rather than the other way around.
